LTTE Gets 1st Place Over Al Qaeda Says FBI,

Ban Ki Moon, America, UK, Western Media, HRW, Amnesty International and all their interested parties are so concerned on the last laps of Wanni Humanitarian mission. But those were not the only months Sri Lanka fought against LTTE terrorism.

Sri Lanka had been suffering from terrorism for nearly 30 years. Wanni Humanitarian mission or Sri Lanka’s fight against terrorism was not limited to the time frame which the pro-LTTE western and European elements are interested on. Were the westerners fast asleep when LTTE massacred thousands of innocent civilians ?

If they can’t recall, following is flashback of what LTTE terrorists did.

1987 – Aranthalawa massacre killed 35 monks - a bus carrying Buddhist monks who are on a pilgrimage and a few unarmed civilians was ambushed by armed LTTE cadres. Among the dead were 31 monks and four civilians.

1987 – Pettah Central Bus Stand explosion

1987– Civilian massacre at Kitulothuwa : this massacre came to know as the Good Friday massacre as it happened on a Good Friday. Two passenger busses were ambushed by the LTTE terrorists and over 200 civilians were killed.

1990 – Surrender of 600 policemen at Kalavanchikudi (later they all were brutally killed)

1990 – Attack on Kinnia police station

1990 – Attack on Mutur police station

1990 – Killed Brigadier Lucky Wijeratne at Trincomalee

1990 – Attack on Kattankudi mosque : LTTE terrorists disguised as Muslim devotees raided four mosques in the town of Kattankudi, where over 300 people were prostrate in Isha prayers. The attack killed over 147 civilians.

1991 - Attack on Elephant pass Army camp

1991 – Palliyagodalla massacre killed at least 109 Muslim people : LTTE terrorists killed 109 Muslim men, women and children in Palliyagodalla village. This attack was the largest massacre of Muslim civilians by the LTTE terrorists to date.

1993 – Assassination of President Premadasa on 1st May: President Premadasa was assassinated Colombo in a suicide bombing, by the LTTE terrorists.

1995 – Kallarawa massacre : Kallarawa, a small fishing village located in Eastern Sri Lanka was attacked by the LTTE terrorists and 42 civilians were killed.

1996 – Attack on Mullaitivu camp

1996 – Central Bank bombing : a suicide attack carried out by the LTTE terrorists. A lorry containing about 440 pounds of high explosives crashed through the main gate of the Central Bank. As gunmen traded fire with security guards, the LTTE suicide bomber in the lorry detonated the massive bomb, which tore through the bank and damaged eight other buildings nearby. The blast killed at least 91 and wounded 1,400 civilians.

1996 – Dehiwala train bombing : bombing of a commuter train killed 64 civilians and wounded nearly 400 others.

1999 – Gonagala massacre : nearly 50 innocent civilians in Gonagala village were hacked to death by the LTTE terrorists.

2006 – Civilian massacre at Kebithigollewa : nearly 60 people were killed when a bus was struck by two Claymore directional mines set up by the LTTE terrorists.

2006 – Digampathana bombing : a suicide truck bombing carried out by the LTTE terrorists against a convoy of 15 military buses at Digampathana. The attacked killed 92 -103 Army men.

These are just a few out of numerous brutal acts LTTE terrorists committed and clear violations of Human Rights. It’s unbelievable that none of the so-called Human Rights guardians didn't see these.
Why on earth the HRW, Amnesty International or at least the UN did not see these ? Will condemning only help ? What sort of justice they are trying to achieve by accusing Sri Lankan troops for fake War Crimes and only condemning the true War Crimes committed by the LTTE terrorist group ?

UNSG’s so-called Advisory Panel is not appointed on any legal ground, at the first place. So there can be no validity or credibility of the outcomes of this panel. Besides the members of this “expert panel” have had links to terrorists in some or the other way. In fact Mr. Marzuki Darusman, who chaired this Panel, carries a record of connections with terrorists. So is it a panel set up to please terrorists ? This is like the famous Sinhala saying “Horage ammagen pena ahanawa (asking the rogue's mother to read the crystal ball)

Even in a village, in an ordinary case, there is a procedure of hearing the case from both sides. Judgment will be given next, based on the evidence collected. But as long as the Ban Ki Moon’s panel on Sri Lanka is concerned, they totally acted according to their prejudice. This “experts’ panel” seem to have fabricated their report just as they were told by the western countries.

All this international pressure is to punish Sri Lanka for wiping out terrorism, because LTTE terrorists were the petted by the West. Western countries mourn on the death of a maniac like Prabhakaran. How can LTTE claim themselves as the “sole representatives” of Tamil people if they commit this type of crimes ? Aren’t these be called atrocities ?

Pro-LTTE westerners and their allied media are ever-ready to justify all LTTE violence terming it as “freedom fight”. Does it mean that they support barbarism?
Are any of these bogus do-gooders dare enough to call LTTE –Terrorists ?

The United Nations has said that UN Chief Ban Ki-moon’s visit to Sri Lanka’s northern part during the last stage of the War was not correctly portrayed in the ‘Sri Lanka’s killing filed’ film that was produced and aired by British Channel 4 news service.

Martin Nesirky, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General told media that
the Secretary-General did much more than a whistle-stop tour to one refugee camp, and that he most certainly did speak to refugees in camps in Sri Lanka. This is something that is not correctly portrayed in that film, he has added.

Question: Martin. Just now, across the street, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch are screening this film, The Killing Fields of Sri Lanka, that I asked you about I guess a week ago… among other things, it concludes that the Secretary-General has ignored the recommendations of his own panel to start an investigation into the war crimes that it depicts. I am wondering if, in the… since he came back… one, the Secretary-General has had any opportunity to see this video by this Channel 4, which is now widely available. And two, if he has any response to what it concludes with?

Spokesperson: Well, first of all, I have already answered this question. The notion that he has ignored the recommendations of the panel is just simply not true. As you know, he is already implementing the recommendations that deal with the internal workings of the UN at the time with safeguarding the material that was gathered during the course of the Panel of Experts’ work. And also, to ensure that there will be regular follow-up to keep an eye on the process that is under way through a national mechanism in Sri Lanka. As for the follow-up, we have repeatedly said that it requires either national consent or a mandate from an intergovernmental body. And that hasn’t changed.

Question: Has the status of this…

Spokesperson: And I’ll come back on the other, just in a second, ask your follow-up, but I wanted to continue on the nature of the film itself. But ask your follow-up question.

Question: Okay, oh sure, sure, absolutely. I just wanted to know, what is the status of his inquiry into the UN’s own actions that was announced in April? Has any actual… has that begun, has the process begun?

Spokesperson: The process of coordinating between different parts of the UN system to ensure that the kind of internal look at how events unfolded and what lessons can be learnt from that, that’s being coordinated between different agencies and different parts of the Secretariat at the moment.

Question: And in terms of looking, is it… is it… just asking yes or no, has he seen the film?

Spokesperson: I don’t think the Secretary-General has seen the film. As you well know, he has been on the move quite a bit. He has been briefed on the film; he is aware of it. And certainly, you were there yourself with the Secretary-General in Sri Lanka. An effort made to harm the reputation of Sri Lanka using the Channel 4 documentary has failed.

Sri Lanka was cleared of the allegations at a meeting held to raise awareness amongst all member countries of the UN regarding the Channel 4 documentary. The conspirators were made speechless by the answers offered by Sri Lanka.

The meeting organized by three well known international humanitarian organizations was held in New York yesterday in order to exert pressure on Sri Lanka. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and International Crisis Group were the three organizations. The producers of the Channel 4 documentary were also present. The Channel 4 documentary was showed to the representatives of all member countries of the UN. Thereafter the fact finding session was held. The Sri Lankan Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Major General Shavendra Silva responded to the questions posed by the representatives of member countries, media personnel as well as the representatives of the institutions that organized the programme. The plan to discredit Sri Lanka was rendered useless due to the answers given by Maj. Gen. Shavendra Silva. UN Permanent Representative Dr. Palitha Kohana was also present. Addressing the gathering Maj. Gen. Sahavendra Silva said that he should have been invited to the meeting as he witnessed firsthand what transpired during the final stages of the conflict. He was able respond to the questions reasonably as he attended the meeting as the Deputy Permanent Representative without even having an invitation. He was able to point out more than 20 incidents that contained false information. The representatives of the member countries as well as the media personnel were convinced that the Channel 4 documentary was based on false facts. The opportunity that could be used by the newspapers and magazines in the US and the BBC to publish news items that could harm the image of Sri Lanka was lost due to this...

The London Times on the morally-bankrupt “channel-4″

“Choosing to Die" [Terry Prachett's BBC 2 documentary on euthanasia] was billed, hyperbolically, as the first time the moment of death has been shown on television. It isn’t. Not by many, many deaths. What they meant was the first death of a white western man in a sitting room; there is death all over television all the time. Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields, Channel 4′s documentary on that country’s civil war, was made up of little else but the moment of death. Just before we get into it, I am going to pause, yet again, to have an eye-rollingly weary word about Jon Snow’s comic ties and jocund socks. And to explain why I mind and why they matter. The ugly garish ties are worn to semaphore the fact that this is a chap who is only wearing a suit because the headmaster says he must. Inside, he is really a far more relaxed, counterculture kind of dude, not at all the establishment flunky the two-piece single-breasted implies. It is a pathetically and worryingly childish pose in a man approaching retirement who wants what comes out of his mouth to be taken seriously. Back to the programme.

Channel 4 has been flogging this story for more than a year, ever since it was given an unattributed but disturbing clip of footage that appeared to show Tamil Tiger prisoners being executed. It has showed it so often, to righteously harangue the Sri Lankan ambassador and various spokesmen, that now nobody will talk to it. The channel has accumulated a large collection of samizdat amateur footage from mobile phones and video cameras – mostly unattributed and uncorroborated. It mixes this footage with comment from unnamed sources with distorted voices and shadowed faces. And human rights lawyers. It was brutal, it was shocking, but it wasn’t journalism.

"Not a second of this has been shot by Channel 4; none of the eyewitness accounts comes from journalists."

Snow’s commentary was intemperate and partisan, and it was all held together by assumptions. Channel 4 News has drifted from providing news broadcasts into being an outlet for nodding spokespeople and assorted NGOs and environmental pressure groups, or anyone who can provide interesting or sensational film. It follows the old American news adage, “If it bleeds, it leads”.

What was depressing about this particularly bloody special was not just that it had precious little context or considered thought, but that the people who will suffer most from it are not governments or soldiers, but the victims of this brutal war, who deserve a more measured professionalism and due diligence, and who deserve better than this compilation of gore, topped and tailed by a man in a comedy tie.

Finally, the most demeaning and prurient part of it all was that the penises of the naked men being executed were smudged out, as if they were the shocking part. And the pubic hair of abused and murdered women was coyly pixelated so as not to be titillating. The horror of war tidied up like Japanese porn, to save us the embarrassment and distaste of having to look at the genitals of the dead.

This was a piece of politically correct sanitising that was degrading and humiliating for the viewer and the viewed, but was symbolic of this programme’s contorted news agenda. It really was the most astonishing and misjudged editorial decision from a news broadcaster that has grown into the habit of poor judgment on almost everything. Channel 4 News once had clever and astute reporters; now it boasts a revolving handful of Autocue readers with hair issues. And its arts coverage, which was by far the best of any terrestrial news, is now ill-informed, naff and embarrassing. This documentary was a low point in a continuing slump.

What both Choosing to Die and the Sri Lankan documentary suffered from in different ways was empathy – which is very popular in documentaries these days. What both should have had was a buttoned-up sober detachment.”

Sri Lanka’s ministry of defense today said that Issipriya was not just an innocent civilian as portrayed by the Channel4 and revealed that she was a high profile member of the Tamil Tigers, who underwent miltary training and died during the armed conflict.

The ministry also said she had not engaged herself in combat operations due to her health conditions.

The ministry statement also mentioned that “Issipriya was given the rank of 'Lt Col' due to her contribution to the LTTE.

She married a Sea Tiger cadre Sri Ram who also died in the final battle in May 2009.

Sri Ram was the former LTTE Senior Sea Tiger leader in Trincomalee and took part in most of the operations launched by the LTTE against the Sri Lanka Navy and Merchant Vessels.”

Channel 4 News revealed that one of the victims was a high profile member of the Tamil Tigers - but claimed she was just a journalist rather than a direct fighter as a result of a heart condition

Issipriya was born in 1982 in Jaffna and was recruited by the LTTE and underwent military training in the Wanni. She then served in the LTTE Military Wing and subsequently joined the "Voice of Tigers", the official radio station of the LTTE.

A report submitted to UNESCO by GoSL following the bombing of VOT by SLAF in 2007 made it clear that VOT was the official propaganda radio station of the LTTE. The LTTE cadres who died in the attack were identified as cadres who had also been actively engaged in military operations against the Security Forces.

Issipriya was given the rank of 'Lt Col' due to her contribution to the LTTE. She married a Sea Tiger cadre Sri Ram who also died in the final battle in May 2009. Sri Ram was the former LTTE Senior Sea Tiger leader in Trincomalee and took part in most of the operations launched by the LTTE against the Sri Lanka Navy and Merchant Vessels.

The identity card issued by the LTTE to Issipriya, pictured (here), in which she was clad in combat attire, further confirms her military involvements with the LTTE.

Channel 4 itself notes that Issipriya inspired and glorified Black Tiger cadres who carried out suicide missions, making it clear that she played a key role in persuading youngsters to undertake suicide missions, a role that is worse than that of the misguided youngsters who are led to sacrifice themselves.

It is unfortunate that Channel 4, ignoring evidence of her active involvement in terrorist activities and driving youngsters to this, whitewashes her by claiming that she was just a journalist and not engaged in combat operations due to her health conditions.

More than 600 innocent Tamil civilians were shot and killed like stray dogs from 1 October 2008 to 18 May 2009 in the Vanni region, but not a single innocent civilian was killed by the Sri Lankan Armed Forces in the hostility campaign against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

The revelation exposes the vindictive nature and the revengeful mentality of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the flawed and distorted version of his so called Experts’ Panel Report and the vested interest of the Western leaders and the Human Rights Organizations in the West, who were parroting the rump LTTE’s allegations to bifurcate Sri Lanka.

A former TNA Member of Parliament, who was with the people who were held as human shield by the former Tamil Tiger supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran and his men – Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam - makes this revelation and exposes the failed political agenda of the LTTE and the vested interests of the West.

Sathasivam Kanagaratnam, a former TNA Member of Parliament represented the Vanni electoral district from April 2004 to April 2010, made this revelation to

Asian Tribune.

This is the first time Mr. S. Kanagaratnam has come forward to break his silence and reveal what actually has happened during the final days of the battle between the Sri Lankan Security Forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Former TNA Member of Parliament said that he was with the people throughout in the Vanni. He said he represented the Vanni electoral district and as the hostility campaign started he was with the people looking after their interest. He said he has seen the horrors of the war and seen people - innocent Tamils, who were treated as stray dogs, shot and killed mercilessly by the LTTE gunmen.

Kanagaratnam was charged by the Sri Lanka Government for refusing Government's orders to leave the LTTE controlled areas and staying in the region during the height of the war.

Kanagaratnam said that United Nations and Western Countries are not privy to any firsthand information about horrors, killings, destructions and the human tragedies that occurred during the final days of the battle.

He rubbished the UN Experts Panel’s report and pooh-poohed it. He said the UN document was based on third or fourth person’s reports and on biased materials prepared by the rump LTTE campaigners and vested interest groups. He challenged whether those three UN Experts could authenticate any of those allegations they have raised and included in their so called report?

He clarified that even those people who were in the Vanni in the last days of the combat between the Government Forces and the LTTE were not privy to any firsthand reports, as they were never allowed to stray out of their bunkers and places where they were confined by the LTTE gunmen.

B.Nadesan and White Flag

When asked about the most hyped White Flag incident involving the LTTE leaders B. Nadesan, the political czar and Pulidevan, Director of the LTTE Political Office, Kanagaratnam said may be KP might have approached, through Western leaders, Sri Lankan Government to safeguard Nadesan, Pulidevan and few others. But, I was in touch with Nadesan right throughout, but Nadesan never openly displayed any sign of deserting Prabakaran and leaving to the government controlled area for his safety.

As far as I am aware, LTTE leader Prabhakaran never wanted any of his top lieutenants crossing into the government controlled areas. These leaders were always surrounded by Prabhakaran’s trusted armed men. They were instructed to shoot at any middle order or senior level leaders if and when suspected that these leaders were trying to betray him by crossing into government controlled area.

Prabhakaran introduced the cyanide culture in his outfit. Anyone at any circumstances was unable to overpower and overcome the enemies, and then they were supposed to bite the cyanide phial and commit suicide. Prabhakaran never tolerated betrayal by anyone.

In case if Nadesan and others tried to cross into the government controlled areas, Prabhakaran would not have tolerated such an act of betrayal. His men would have shot and killed Nadesan and others.

“I learnt when I was in the government controlled area on 18 May 2009 that Nadesan and few others tried to cross into the Government controlled area but they were shot and killed.

“According to my information, they were shot and killed by the LTTE gunmen. This is what I learnt, said Kanagaratnam.

Chellakili And Ambushing The Army Convoy

The 64 year old Kanagaratnam who revealed information about the tragic incidents of the last days in Vanni, was born in Sankli Thoppu, Nallur, located in the Jaffna City and had his secondary education at the Senkuntha Hindu College. He had two younger brothers and two sisters.

The one directly after him was late S. Chelvanayakam and the youngest brother was S. Rajaratnam, who is a farmer living in Udayar Kaddu.

One of Kanagaratnam’s brothers was the famous Lieutinent Chelvanayakam alias Amman, Chellakili and also called Chandran. He was part of Sri Lanka’s history, whose action led to the unfolding of 1983 ethnic holocaust.

He was the one who organized the ambushing military convoy at Tirunelvely, (Tinnaiveli) in 1983.

Along with Chellakilili , Prabhakaran, Kittu, Iyer, Victor, Pulendran, Santhosam and Appiah were among others who took part in the ambushing of the Sri Lankan Army Convoy. They planted landmines and waited to ambush the Army convoy.

According to reports, it was Chellakili who was dressed in the Sri Lankan Army uniform, set off the mine, which went off with thunderous explosion, subsequently ended in the massacre of 13 Sri Lankan Army soldiers.

Though Prabhakaran and his men were victorious in their attack, they found Chellakili missing. It was Victor who went towards the shop where Chellakili took position in the ambush, found his body lay there bleeding. There was a fatal bullet wound in his chest.

Kanagaratnam said that his brother’s life ended mysteriously. He said his family members and friends placed the blame on Prabhakaran for shooting Chellakili, but he said that till end there was no way to prove the killing to Prabhakaran.

Kanagaratnam said that after the mysterious death of his brother, his family was not in any way associated with the LTTE.

Early Life

According to Kanagaratnam’s version, after his schooling, he started working as a salesman in a convenience store in Jaffna, later obtained car driving license followed by one to drive motor buses. After obtaining the car driving license, he was employed as a chauffeur by a local ‘Mudalali’ in Innuvil and later worked in the ‘Anna Coffee’, Jaffna from 1969 to 1978. In 1978, he said that he joined the Ceylon Transport Board as a Bus Driver and was attached to the Mattakuliya Depot and later in 1980; he was transferred to the CTB Depot at Mullaitivu. He was with the state transport board till 2000 until he reached his retirement age of 55 years.

Kanagaratnam said that they had a 5 acre plot of land suitable to grow coconut palms at Suthanthirapuram, located next to Udayarkaddu. He said that they were living in the house in Suthanthirapuram with his wife and three children, two boys and a girl. The eldest son is Aathithan and the other one is Sancheevan and the daughter Niriththana.

After retirement, Kanagaratnam joined the Vanni Private Bus Operators’ Association, was the Manager cum Time-Keeper and was working at Kilinochchi.

He said that the majority of the private buses that operated from Kilinochchi belonged to the LTTE and their entire private bus operation came under one ‘Kutti’ who was assistant to Puhalenthi, the man in charge of the finances of the Tiger outfit.

Kanagaratnam said that while he was working with the Private Bus Operators’ Association in Kilinochchi, he came in contact with all the leading LTTE leaders, mainly with Tamilselvan who was in charge of the political division of the outfit.

He said that it was Tamilselvan who was responsible for nominating him as a TNA candidate for the Vanni electoral district in the 2004 Parliamentary General elections.

When his name was announced as a candidate, he said that he was surprised. Even after he was elected as a Member of Parliament, he remained in Vanni and lived with the people.

In Mullivaikkal

Given below excerpts of the interview Asian Tribune had with the former TNA Member of Parliament:

Asian Tribune: What happened, during your stay in Vanni?

S.Kanagaratnam: I have been living in Vanni since the year 2000. In fact after 2005, the war between the Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE began in earnest.

Asian Tribune: Where were you during the last days of the War with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)?

S.Kanagaratnam: Those days I was at Mullivaikkal.

Asian Tribune: Where were you at Mullivaikkal?

S.Kanagaratnam: In front of the Mullivaikkal Pillaiyar Temple.

Asian Tribune: How many of you were there?

S.Kanagaratnam: There were three to four families together with me, and including children we were more than 14 people living together. We were all in one bunker – underground shelter.

Asian Tribune: Then where were the LTTE leaders including Prabhakaran and his family members?

S.Kanagaratnam: They were near the Vattapalai Nanthikadal side. We were on the sea side.

Asian Tribune: Have you seen them?

S.Kanagaratnam: As an MP, who was with the people in Vanni, I was in touch with the LTTE leader, but at the last days, we could not move. But I came to know about them, as the boys who were with him later were with me at the 4th Floor in the police custody. They told that they were with him during the last days of the battle.

Asian Tribune: Do you know what actually happened to Prabakaran and his family members?

S.Kanagaratnam: No, there was no way of knowing the occurrences of the last two or three days. According to the information, those boys who were providing security to Prabhakaran and his family members have also deserted him and there was no way to ascertain as to what has happened to him and his family.

Asian Tribune: Were you not able to come across people who could reveal what happened to Prabhakaran?

S.Kanagaratnam: Not a single, who could in fact reveal the truth. You all should know that Prabhakaran never took anyone into his confidence and he never let anyone to be near him.

Asian Tribune: What were you then doing those days?

S.Kanagaratnam: At the last days of the conflict, in May 2009, we were making arrangements to leave Vanni and cross over into the government controlled area. But we were prevented from moving out into the government controlled area.

To The Government Controlled Area

Asian Tribune: Who prevented you?

S.Kanagaratnam: There were LTTE sentries around civilian residential places. Two of those LTTE cadres stopped us leaving from Mullivaikkal area via Vadduvahal to Mullaitivu. Those days we were unable to leave to anywhere. There were so much of restrictions by the LTTE. But we were told on the 16th evening that the LTTE cadre who was manning the sentry died when his hand grenade accidentally exploded. The other sentry was missing after that incident. Then only we started moving out from Mullivaikkal. But we were unable to reach Mullaitivu on that day. We waited whole night in some hiding places and managed to reach only on the following day.

Asian Tribune: This was on the 17th. Where did you go?

S.Kanagaratnam: To Mullaitivu.

Asian Tribune: From Mullaitivu when did you leave for the Government camps?

S.Kanagaratnam: We went to Mullaitivu on the 17th morning. When I said that I am a Member of Parliament, Army men detained me for a day for inquiry.

Asian Tribune: How did you go to Mullaitivu?

S.Kanagaratnam: We went up to the Vadduvahal Bridge and from the bridge we went into the army controlled area on the 17th morning. Then I was allowed to proceed to the Government controlled welfare centre only on the 18 May.

Asian Tribune: When did you know that the LTTE leader Prabhakaran and his family members were dead?

S.Kanagaratnam: That, sad incident we came to know only after we came to the welfare centre at Cheddikulam and not before that.

Asian Tribune: There were allegations that during the days you were in Mullivaikkal and other areas, that Sri Lankan army indiscriminately firing artillery shells and dropping bombs and killing people? What is your comment about this?

S.Kanagaratnam: In fact, shells were falling all over. We were simply helpless.

Asian Tribune: Who was involved in those shelling?

S.Kanagaratnam: We learnt that shells were fired by both sides - Government as well as by the LTTE. And we started to flee to bunkers and other safe places whenever bombs and shells started falling in our areas.

Asian Tribune: Can’t you specifically say who was in fact firing the artillery shells?

S.Kanagaratnam: No, it was very difficult to point the accusing finger at one party or the other. Shells were fired at people who were in the safe places – No Fly Zones, which were allocated as places where people concentrated for safety, as well as in hospitals and in other places.

Asian Tribune: Who was behind all those shelling?

S. Kanagaratnam: No Fire Zone was allocated by the Sri Lankan Government. People started concentrating in those allocated places, hoping they would not be subjected to any shelling by the Sri Lankan armed forces. They also thought that they would be able to cross safely into the government controlled areas.

Government only allocated some areas as no fly zone, but those areas were under the control of the LTTE. The big Guns of the LTTE started firing towards those no fly zone areas to threaten civilians from trying to leave for those marked areas and prevent them from crossing into the government controlled areas.

They shelled rampantly and indiscriminately. Civilians were affected very badly.

Many died. But it was blamed that they were victims to the artillery fire of the government forces. But as far as I am aware, whenever shells fell in no-fly zone, it was alleged that government forces were shelling the civilians. But I am one who lived there and had the privy to mingle with the LTTE cadres; I have personally seen the ‘big guns’ located in the midst of the civilian population of the LTTE firing towards the no-fly zone.

It is very difficult to understand the elusive mind of Prabhakaran and his men. When they fired at the no-fly zone, normally Sri Lankan forces retaliated to silence the LTTE guns.

It is very difficult to understand the propaganda ploy of the LTTE. They always succeeded in blaming the Government for their entire anti—people activities, duplicity of the Tigers incomprehensible.

Asian Tribune: There was an allegation that innocent civilians, - non-combatants were shot and killed. Who was behind those killings?

Killings Of Civilians

S.Kanagaratnam: It was the LTTE which shot at the civilians. They shot the innocent civilians to frighten them not to leave for the Government controlled areas.

Asian Tribune: Did they kill many civilians?

S.Kanagaratnam: In fact countless. I lost count of it. LTTE cadres were deployed all over and civilians were shot at to frightened and to prevent them from leaving the area.

Asian Tribune: So you think that may be fifty to hundred people would have been shot and killed by the LTTE?

S.Kanagaratnam: It will be many times more than that.

Asian Tribune: Do you mean more people were killed by the LTTE?

S.Kanagaratnam: Those days I was maintaining a record of those who were killed and injured. But as I had to flee, I was unable take with me all those documents. When I fled, I only had a shirt on my back. I can still remember an incident. The Education Officer of the Mullaitivu District, I think it is one Mr. Thiagarajah and his children were shot and killed – a total of five members in that family are no more. I think his wife has survived and many others were mercilessly shot and killed by the LTTE.

When the Sri Lankan Army was accepting the displaced persons arriving into their controlled areas, LTTE was shooting at the fleeing civilians to prevent them from leaving. I have seen many dead bodies littered all over the places, who were victims to the brutal killing of the LTTE.

Asian Tribune: But there is a general allegation that innocent civilians were killed by the government security forces. So you mean to say that mostly civilians were killed by the LTTE? You were the only person who was with the people till the last moment in Vanni. Furthermore, you were an elected representative of the people also.

S.Kanagaratnam: OK. I have seen with my own eyes, the tragic and horrendous scenarios unfolding those days and seen people being ruthlessly killed by the LTTE - Rule of the gun prevailed.

Asian Tribune: OK. Have you seen any Sri Lankan Army personnel entering the civilian area and shooting and killing them? Have you seen any civilians fled to the Government controlled area was shot and killed by the Sri Lankan Army personnel? Have you seen any women been raped by the Sri Lankan army men?

S.Kanagaratnam: No, not at all. I haven’t seen any civilians being killed by the Sri Lankan Army. I haven’t heard any women being raped by the Army men.

But I have seen the Army personnel collecting all those injured persons while receiving the fleeing civilians and took them and treated them and actually saved the lives of a few hundred civilians.

Asian Tribune: Who are those people who were injured? How they were injured? How they were safeguarded?

S.Kanagaratnam: Those were the innocent Tamil civilians who were caught up in the fighting. Majority of them were given treatment. As the Army advanced to the LTTE controlled areas, those civilians were hiding in many places. Those are the people who were picked by the Army and transported to the Army controlled areas and treated. I was later told that those who were severely injured and in critical conditions were air-dashed to Trincomalee, Anuradapura and other hospitals in the South for treatment.

Asian Tribune: Were the majority of them civilians?

S.Kanagaratnam: In fact majority of them, more than 75% of them were LTTE cadres. Army was able to identify them as they were from the armed group of the LTTE. But still they took them and treated them.

Asian Tribune: How do you know the Sri Lankan Army personnel safeguarded the injured LTTE cadres as well as the injured civilians?

S.Kanagaratnam: It was a known piece of information for those who were living inside the Vanni those days. People used to talk that injured persons were normally taken by the Army men for treatment. But I saw that with my own eyes, when I was in the Army controlled territory on the 17 to 18 May 2009.

I told earlier that when I reached the Army controlled area and declared that I am an elected Member of Parliament; I was detained for interrogation and was subsequently allowed to move to the government welfare centre.

So, when I was with the Army men, I saw in front of the Reception area, which was meant to receive the displaced persons arriving from the LTTE controlled area, there was an Army medical centre.

I saw dozens and dozens of injured persons being brought from the LTTE controlled area and treated, and those found critical were rushed to Vavuniya in Army vehicles and persons in critical conditions were taken by helicopters to hospitals all over the country.

I saw those injured persons were brought in tractors and other vehicles. Majority of them were known to me and almost many of them were LTTE armed cadres.

I found that those injured LTTErs were handled politely and humanely by the Sri Lankan soldiers.

Inside The Army Controlled Area

Asian Tribune: In Mullativu, where did you enter the Army controlled area?

S.Kanagaratnam: You know, just passing the Vadduvakal, about 1 mile away; there was a big paddy field. That was fenced by barbed wire. There , people were received and kept in separate open spaces according to their arrival from the LTTE areas and were called and identities verified by the Army men.

There was no roof above the head. In this place only displaced persons were received and their identities verified and dispatched to the welfare centers.

As and when the verification process was over, every time a group of people, around one hundred and more were transferred from there to the welfare centres in Cheddikulam.

Asian Tribune: So, you say that when you were there, you saw injured LTTE cadres and civilians being brought by the Army men and were given treatment? Were you able to talk to those injured people?

S.Kanagaratnam: Yes, I saw them being brought and treated. But it was not possible either to meet or talk with them, as the Army medical centre was on the roadside and we were held in an area behind the medical centre, and it was barbed wired.

Asian Tribune: OK, you mean to say that the Army was able to bring the injured people. That means the army was able to enter into the LTTE controlled area by the 18th of May 2009?

S.Kanagaratnam:Yes … yes, by then the army has managed to enter the LTTE controlled area by the beach front.

Asian Tribune: Which beach front you mean?

S.Kanagaratnam: Not by the Nandikadal, but by the ocean side.

Asian Tribune: Do you know which army unit managed to enter the LTTE controlled area?

S.Kanagaratnam: That I won’t be able to tell you, as I am not aware of it.

Asian Tribune: Can you tell me where the army men came?

S.Kanagaratnam: To the places where we all lived. They have come to Mullivaikkal area, to the temple area which was the last temple on the eastern side of Mullivaikkal. – Pillaiyar Temple.

Civilians Were Herded By The LTTE

Asian Tribune:Can you tell us why you all went along with the LTTE instead of trying to enter the government controlled area?

S.Kanagaratnam: There was no way of going to the government controlled area and we were also not allowed to cross into the government controlled area.

Asian Tribune: Is it possible for you to give some detail as to how more than three hundred thousand civilians were herded as human shield by the LTTE?

S.Kanagaratnam: As the war raged, people by small groups started joining and thus they were herded.

For example, I was initially living at Mulliyawalai. Then from there I was forced to move out and went to Udayarkaddu. When the Army from Kilinochchi came via Dharmapuram and started attacking Udayarkaddu, then we managed to flee via Devipuram, Suthanthirapuram along the sea side and we reached Iranaipalai and then arrived near the Valangnenmadam Church area. We stayed there for more than 21 days.

When we were there only, my wife was injured due to a shell exploding. My driver named Prabhakaran also died. He also succumbed to injuries.

Then we moved from Valingenmadam on to Mullivaikkal near the Pillaiyar Kovil.

Asian Tribune: Why did you leave for Mullivaikkal?

S.Kanagaratnam: The Army was behind us. As the Army moved towards new positions in the LTTE controlled areas, we were all kept on herded by the LTTE armed men towards new positions at the point of the gun.

But from there, more than 100,000 displaced persons managed to slip into the Army controlled areas.

Asian Tribune: During that time did you not see any top level LTTE leaders?

S.Kanagaratnam: There was lot of middle level leaders who were trying to convince the disheartened and disillusioned civilians that they would overcome the Army and win the war.

But when anyone questioned them, that person was always shot and killed at pointblank range. This was done to instill fear in the minds of the people.

B.Nadesan And His Duplicity

When I opposed this inhuman behavior of the middle level LTTE cadres, I was taken in front of B.Nadesan, the political czar of the LTTE. I was detained for one long day. He said I should continue to work with them and work with them wholeheartedly.

He said that this was an order from the leader Prabhakaran. After that I was allowed to go back to Mullivaikkal.

Once I arrived back in Mullivaikkal, I found that the people have lost confidence, and they were not ready to stay any more.

Asian Tribune: Do you know what happened to Nadesan? Was he killed?

S.Kanagaratnam: When I was in Mullaitivu Army Reception area there were some LTTE cadres, and they told me that they saw Nadesan and few others moving towards the Government controlled area. I was told that Prabhakaran was against these people betraying him and moving into the Government controlled area. Those boys told me that LTTE gunmen were after them. But I was not aware what happened to him and who killed him.

But I wish to say with certainty that Prabhakaran has never endorsed the plan of surrendering to Sri Lanka Army. I know for certain that LTTE leader has not approved Nadesan and Pulidevan surrendering by carrying any flag. I was told Prabhakaran sent his elite group to stop the duo fleeing the LTTE controlled area. Thus the duo must have, I am sure received the fatal blow by the very LTTE gunmen who were loyal to Prabhakaran.

Asian Tribune: Did you know about others, like Lawrence Thilakar ?

S.Kanagaratnam: Yes, I met Lawrence Thilakar and many other commanders crossing into the Army controlled area.

Asian Tribune: We wish to reiterate that there are serious and grave allegations that Sri Lanka Army shot and killed innocent civilians?

S.Kanagaratnam: No. It can’t be. When the Sri Lankan Army treated even the LTTE cadres humanely, is there any need for them to kill any civilians?

There is no logic in that argument. I can say that nothing like that happened. I wish to strongly emphasize this.

Asian Tribune: So you deny that Sri Lankan Army has not shot and killed innocent civilians. Tell whether you are denying this allegation?

S.Kanagaratnam: Yes, I deny such frivolous allegations. I must be truthful in the name of the God. I am also answerable to Almighty the God.

I know these are propaganda ploy of the rump LTTErs in the West.

Killing Of Innocent Civilians

Asian Tribune: OK, we have to agree with you that you are the only person who has for the first time come up with the true scenario. You were there with the people till 18th May 2009. We have to accept your version, not because you are an individual who was there, but you were a Member of Parliament representing the Vanni people and nominated to contest the election on the TNA ticket by the LTTE.

OK, now tell us then who was responsible for the killing of the innocent Tamil civilians, who were in the LTTE controlled areas during the last days of the battle between the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and the LTTE?

S.Kanagaratnam: People have also succumbed to crossfire as the battle rages. They were shooting to safeguard the civilians.

Asian Tribune: Who was firing to safeguard the civilians?

S.Kanagaratnam: When the Army chased the LTTE and fired artilleries, the LTTE was also firing at the Army. And Army was interested in taking back the displaced Tamil civilians into the government controlled areas and they pointedly fired at the artillery installations of the LTTE and cleared the way for the people to leave the LTTE controlled areas to move into the government controlled areas. This move by the Army was a good one which paved the way for the civilians to move into the government controlled area.

Asian Tribune: Can you tell us how many civilians would have been killed from October 2008 to May 2009, in the final days of the battle?

S.Kanagaratnam: During those days as a Member of Parliament I was moving all over to find for myself the situation prevailing over there. When I came to know that some civilians were killed, I used to go to that place, inquire how that person or persons were killed, console the family members and participate in their decent cremations.

Asian Tribune: Tell us where and where you went to check the plight of the people?

S.Kanagaratnam: In the last days, I used to travel to those places where civilians were killed. I never stayed in the bunker with the view to safe myself. I managed to move around in a bicycle and travel in pillion with the help of some youngsters who were incidentally happened to be in that area.

Those days I was powerless and could not be of any service to my people, but was present at the place where someone died or injured to console the family members and to participate in their funeral. That is all I was able to do.

Asian Tribune: OK, according to your investigations, tell us who must be held responsible for the killing of the civilians?

S.Kanagaratnam: Many people perished because of the artillery fire. I am not in a position to say who was actually responsible for those killings. It was very difficult to predict. But many people were shot and killed. Civilians were shot and killed by the LTTE, while they were trying to flee into the government controlled area.

Asian Tribune: Can you tell us how many people who were fleeing were shot and killed? We asked you this question earlier also.

S.Kanagaratnam: Unable to give an exact figure, but many hundreds would have been killed.

Asian Tribune: Is it possible to give us a rough figure of civilians shot and killed by the LTTE gunmen?

S.Kanagaratnam: Indeed many hundreds were killed, but at present I am unable to give you an exact figure, as I have lost all my documents when I left Mullivaikkal to the government controlled area. Innocent Tamils were shot and killed indiscriminately by the LTTE gunmen from Puthumatthalan up to Mullivailkkal. This kept on going for several months.

Asian Tribune: Is it OK, if we say that nearly 250 to 300 Tamils were killed by the gun wielding Tamil Tigers?

S.Kanagaratnam: It is more than that amount. It can be nearly five hundred to six hundred?

Asian Tribune: So you mean to say that about six hundred civilians have been shot and killed by the LTTE in the last days of the battle with the Sri Lanka Government?

S.Kanagaratnam: Yes, it can be little more. When civilians were trying to escape and flee to the government controlled area, they were spotted and mercilessly killed. I have visited the places where civilians’ dead bodies were littered around and initiated investigation to find out whether those dead were killed by the Sri Lankan Army. But to my disgust and regret, I was told that every time LTTE gunmen shot and killed innocent civilians like stray dogs. The demented Tiger gunmen simply sprayed bullets on civilians with their lethal weapons and the civilians used to drop death for no fault of their own.

This was done on the orders of the LTTE leader to prevent civilians from leaving to the government controlled areas.

I also often visited the Puthumaththalan hospital and most of those civilians who were killed by the Tigers were brought to this hospital. I used to meet the people who brought these dead bodies and inquired from them. They have always told me that the dead ones were killed by the LTTE gunmen.

Asian Tribune: Why no one has approached you for your statement of the final days of the war with the LTTE? At that time you were an elected MP? Am I right?

S.Kanagaratnam: Yes. I was an MP at that time. Later when I was taken to the Fourth floor, the CID officers recorded my statement, but I don’t know what happened to that statement.

Asian Tribune: That means you made a statement, unfortunately the police intelligent officers who questioned you and recorded your statement have failed to comprehend the importance of your statement?

S.Kanagaratnam: When I was at the Fourth Floor, they also had doctors who worked in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts - T Satyamurthy, V Shanmugarajah, T Vardharajah, Ilanchelian Vallavan and N Ketheesh and they took up their statements as important and must have thought to ignore my statement.

Asian Tribune: What about the LLRC? Did they contact you? Why you did not contact them to narrate your version?

S.Kanagaratnam: They should have contacted me. They should have known that I was the elected Member of Parliament who was with my people till end of the bloody conflict. For reasons not known to me, they did not invite me to hear my version. I too was not happy to be present before them without being invited to give the miseries encountered by my people - the tale of deaths, the tale of woe and the harrowing episode of more than three hundred thousand people in the ‘land of grave’ in Vanni under the control of Prabhakaran.

From Mullaitivu, I was taken to Omantai and there also I made a statement and from there I was taken to the welfare centre – Zone 4, Chettikulam.

At Chettikulam, Police CIDs came and arrested me and brought me to the regional police headquarters in Vavuniya. There they recorded my statement and took me on the same day to Colombo to the 4th floor.

At the 4th floor I was questioned and my statement was recorded.

Three months after my detention in the 4th Floor, I came to know that my eldest son Aathithan too has been arrested and kept in the 4th floor as a LTTE suspect.

I have already said that after the mysterious death of my brother Chellakili at the hands of Prabhakaran, we did not support the LTTE, but in 1995 my eldest son was forcefully recruited.

I have appealed to Balarajh several times to free my son; he adamantly refused to release him.

Asian Tribune: Tell us when you were released from the police custody?

S. Kanagaratnam: I was released on the night of 13 January 2010. From Colombo I was taken by the Police to the Vavuniya Magistrate.

The Vavuniya Magistrate Alex Raja ordered my release. One of the charges against me was, “refusing Government's order to leave the LTTE controlled areas and staying in the region during the height of the war.”

I was not charged yet, but the Magistrate ordered me to surrender my passport to the courts. And I was released on conditions.

Sri Lanka Premier League begins July 19

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have confirmed the dates for the first edition of the Sri Lanka Premier League will be from July 19 to August 4, 2011. The seven provinces will play 24 matches over the 18 days, all of which will be telecast live globally. That suggests a format in which all the teams will play each other once in a league stage, before two semi-finals and a final.

Each team will only be allowed five overseas players in their squad, of which only four can be named in the XI. Several foreign players including Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Shahid Afridi and Herschelle Gibbs have already been signed for the tournament.

1. Tell me about yourself?
The most often asked question in interviews. You need to have a short statement prepared in your mind. Be careful that it does not sound rehearsed. Limit it to work-related items unless instructed otherwise. Talk about things you have done and jobs you have held that relate to the position you are interviewing for. Start with the item farthest back and work up to the present.

2. Why did you leave your last job?
Stay positive regardless of the circumstances. Never refer to a major problem with management and never speak ill of supervisors, co-workers or the organization. If you do, you will be the one looking bad. Keep smiling and talk about leaving for a positive reason such as an opportunity, a chance to do something special or other forward-looking reasons.

3. What experience do you have in this field?
Speak about specifics that relate to the position you are applying for. If you do not have specific experience, get as close as you can.

4. Do you consider yourself successful?
You should always answer yes and briefly explain why. A good explanation is that you have set goals, and you have met some and are on track to achieve the others.

5. What do co-workers say about you?
Be prepared with a quote or two from co-workers. Either a specific statement or a paraphrase will work. Jill Clark, a co-worker at Smith Company, always said I was the hardest workers she had ever known. It is as powerful as Jill having said it at the interview herself.

12. Are you a team player?
You are, of course, a team player. Be sure to have examples ready. Specifics that show you often perform for the good of the team rather than for yourself are good evidence of your team attitude. Do not brag, just say it in a matter-of-fact tone. This is a key point.

13. How long would you expect to work for us if hired?
Specifics here are not good. Something like this should work: I'd like it to be a long time. Or As long as we both feel I'm doing a good job

14. Have you ever had to fire anyone?
How did you feel about that? This is serious. Do not make light of it or in any way seem like you like to fire people. At the same time, you will do it when it is the right thing to do. When it comes to the organization versus the individual who has created a harmful situation,you will protect the organization. Remember firing is not the same as layoff or reduction in force.

15. What is your philosophy towards work?
The interviewer is not looking for a long or flowery dissertation here. Do you have strong feelings that the job gets done?Yes. That's the type of answer that works best here. Short and positive, showing a benefit to the organization.

World Cup trophy lifted by Team India is fake ....

The ICC World Cup trophy that Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his team mates proudly lifted was a fake one, India Today magazine reported on its website.

This has never happened in the 36-year history of the cricket World Cup, the website reported.

According to the website, the real trophy valued at $130,000 was seized by the Mumbai Customs and locked in a government warehouse on its arrival from Sri Lanka after the semifinals on March 29.

Several factors are responsible for the trophy being held up in the airport, the website reported.

Under the Indian customs rule, the World Cup trophy was not eligible for exemption from import duty. A combination of mismanagement from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and intricate Indian government rules made sure that the trophy stayed locked at the airport, the website reported.

"The ICC has been insisting that the trophy which came on the flight from Colombo (after the Sri Lanka-New Zealand semi-finals on March 29) is a replica of the original World Cup trophy that is already at the Wankhede Stadium," the website quoted a customs official as saying.

"ICC officials told us that that this trophy has no commercial value as it is used for promotions only. However, when examined by a valuer, the trophy was estimated to be worth Rs 60 lakh ($135,104) or so, made of pure silver and gold. The payable customs duty is about Rs15 lakh ($33,776). If it is a replica, then does it have to be exactly of the same value as the supposed trophy?

Moreover, the ICC letter that the official was carrying said that it was the World Cup trophy. Nowhere did the letter say that it was a replica and it should be let out," the customs official saId.

The ICC, meanwhile, is desperately trying to cover up its fiasco, the website reported.

A top ICC official has said that the real trophy is never presented to the winning team and only the replica is presented to the winner, the website reported.

But photographs of Australia captains Steve Waugh (1999) and Ricky Ponting (2003, 2007) receiving the original trophy, which was instituted in 1999, prove otherwise.

The base of the original trophy has names of all the winners since 1975 engraved on it while the one presented to Dhoni had a blank black base, proving that the trophy was a fake one, the website reported.

Like many other social networks, Facebook also contains tons of fake profiles unfortunately. Those fake profile holders use Social Engineering tactics to attack innocent people. Facebook has almost 500 Million Users and it is not surprising to have few thousands fake profiles. Below I mentioned some funny but true tips to check whether a profile is fake or not.

1. Profile Picture. Always be suspicious of profiles featuring photos of professional models. Most of the fake profiles, especially that of females, have only one profile picture and that too a beautiful or sexy (ahem) picture! ;)

2. Many Males. Their friends list will contain males mostly (Well, that’s not their fault, gender issue :D ). It could be around 1000s or even more than that.

3. When Did They Joined? Check when she/he joined. If they have lots of friends and have only been on the Facebook a short amount of time, it’s likely to be a fake one.

4. Tag Me! He/she would be tagged in tons of cartoon pictures than his/her own picture.

5. Apps Requests. If he/she is in your friend list, then you will get lotta application or like requests from them. I got many requests like that, some include “Can you send me a chicken?”, “Can you send a buffalo?”.. LOL.

6. Facebook Albums. Most of the fake profiles photos are open to everyone. Well, not a promising tip, but worth it. It may contain lot of pictures but they would not have tags indicating other profiles. They may also contain really tiny photos.

7. Full Filled Profile. If a profile is lengthy and detailed, then you can be sure that it is a real person. Fake Profile creators won’t have time to create long and interesting profiles.

8. Favorite Pages. Most of the fake profiles have less than 20 pages, well almost.

9. Description. Most of the fake profiles have descriptions like “Accept My Farmville Request”, “Add Me In Mafia Wars”, and many more.

10. For Boys : Girls don’t send friend requests to strangers, I mean good girls! :P So if, by chance, you get a friend request from girls, don’t confirm it without verifying the details. If you are not a handsome looking guy and you got a friend request from a hot babe. Then you really need to triple check! :D

11. For Girls : Who said? I support boys too! But some boys usually send friend requests to girls. So it is better to confirm with others and verify. If you are not a hot babe and you got a friend request from a handsome looking guy. Then you should also really need to triple check! :D

12. Status Updates. Most probably fake profile’s status updates won’t get comments or likes. They may also share fake websites (Phishing attack). (Survey)

13. Celeb Request. If you are added by a celebrity! :P Unless you are a celebrity please don’t add! :D If they are claiming to be a model or actress or anything like that, then they will surely have professional pictures on their album.

14. Add Feeds. Fake profile’s feeds will contain only friend request adds.

I don’t say don’t accept any strange friend requests. Trust, but verify! 8) ;)

LTTE air raid thwarted; both terrorist aircraft destroyed - Colombo 20-02-2009

he latest reports indicate that both LTTE aircraft entered into the Colombo aerospace were destroyed by the air defence system. One of the aircraft disabled by anti air gunfire reportedly crashed in the rear of the Inland Revenue Department building located on the Sir C.A. Gardiner road.

the Two LTTE aircraft were detected in the air above the Colombo around 9.45 last night (Feb 20). Following the detection, air defence system was activated causing the two terrorist aircraft to abort their missions.

Air Force sources said that the second aircraft that had be [Click to magnify/shrink] en trying to escape from air defence system was shot down while flying over Negambo . Parts of the destroyed aircraft along with the body of the pilot were found close to the Katunayake Air Base.

Due to the crash of the terrorist aircraft in Colombo 47 people have suffered injuries. According to the sources at the National Hospital Colombo, two of the injured were succumbed to their injuries.

Meanwhile, another 6 civilians suffered injuries in the air craft crash in Katunayake were admitted to the Negambo hospital. One of the injured has been transferred to the national hospital , Colombo, hospital sources said.

Meanwhile , the Inland Revenue Department in Colombo has received slight damages in the terrorist air raid. According to the hospital sources , at least 42 people have suffered injuries....

LTTE continues targeting Tamil civilians: suicide bomb attack at IDP rescue centre - Kilinochchi

At least 29 people including 10 civilians were killed and 64 others including 40 civilians reported injured when an LTTE woman suicide bomber blew herself at an IDP rescue centre, North of Visuamadu in Mullaittivu this morning (Feb 9) at around 11.30 a.m. 3 woman soldiers were also among the military fatalities reported.

According to defence observers, LTTE terrorists have perpetrated the attack targeting the civilians in reprisal, for defying LTTE's orders to take-up arms. Exact casualty figures are yet to be estimated as tension prevails in the area. Security forces immediately cordon off the area, while medical units were rushed to the site, the sources said. Women and children are said to be among the many reported killed and injured in the suicide bomb blast, security sources said. Ambulances carried the wounded to the Kilinochchi hospital.

The female suicide bomber had arrived among the civilians who were seeking protection with security forces in guise. The bomber had blown herself before being screened, the reports further said.

According to them, the LTTE in the face of an inevitable defeat is trying to score levels with the innocent civilians. On Sunday(8), a group of civilians escaping from the LTTE hellholes North of Visuamadu and Sugandirapuram have ramped an LTTE barricade assaulting a LTTE 'police' cadre and killing two female terrorists in the cause. Similarly civilians, who were forcibly armed and sent to the forefront by LTTE, have taken on the less numbered LTTE cadres beating the terrorists and tying them behind, on 7th February. The civilians had later managed to flee towards the security forces controlled area, the sources further said.

LTTE terrorists have blasted off the Kalamadukulam Tank bund this morning (Jan 24) in a desperate attempt to stall the multi-frontal military surge towards Visuamadu area, latest reports from the Mullaittivu battlefront said. "This is totally an inhuman act with least respect to the lives of innocent Tamil civilians entrapped in the area", a defence official said while urging worldwide condemnation for the terrorist act.

Terrorists have used high explosives and triggered the detonation flooding a section of the A-35 Pranthan - Mullaittivu main road, Ramanatpuram, Dharmapuram and Visuamadu. LTTE terrorists had resorted to this cheap tactic after suffering heavy beating by the security forces during intense fighting that erupted since Friday (23), Northeast of Kalamadu and Nethiliaru, security sources said. Terrorist resistances were beaten comprehensively in the ground battles, which left its fighting formations in total disarray, security sources said.

According to defence observers, the floods will also worsen the LTTE orchestrated humanitarian crisis at Mullaittivu with hundreds confined to small land patches and deprived of relief or aid supplies. Earlier, LTTE terrorists made a similar attempt to destroy the Iranamadu Tank bund to dismantle the multi-pronged military advance during the battle for Kilinochchi.

Kalamadukulam Tank spreads over 4.5sq.km. with a capacity of supplementing irrigation water to over 500 acres of land. "Not only LTTE had created a humanitarian catastrophe but have also shown their utmost contempt of the very people once they said to 'represent'," defence observers further stated.

Malaysia orders a countrywide alert on fleeing tiger supremo Prabhakaran.

Malaysian Inspector General of Police Musa Hassan told Kula Lumpur's Strait Times that he has ordered a country wide alert to be on the watch out for Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.

The alert was issued on the suspicion that he may have escaped to Malaysia after Sri Lankan troops surrounded his last stronghold, Mulaitivu in a 50,000 strong force.

The Malaysian Police Chief told the newspaper that there was a suspicion that Prabhakaran might have escaped to Malaysia or the neighbouring Thailand.

There is a strong Sri Lankan Tamil minority in Malaysia and it is alleged that a strongly pro-LTTE politician in India has been maintaining coordinating activities between the rebel outfit and the Malaysian Tamils.

"We are also using our local intelligence network to ascertain if he is already in the country," Musa was quoted as saying to the Strait Times. "My men will be monitoring all entry points into the country to ensure he does not enter the country," he added.

There had been many speculations in the press about the whereabouts of Prabhakaran after Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army , last Saturday said, that Prabhakaran might have already escaped Mulaitivu. He has said that the only possible withdrawal of the Tigers could be to the sea in reply to a supporting politician of the Tamil Tigers that they had withdrawn as a tactical strategy to Mulaitivu.

Military analysts have predicted that all camps of the Tigers could be overrun within the matter of few weeks by the Sri Lanka forces.

Sri Lankan troops on Friday captured Elephant Pass, the Tamil Tigers' last stronghold on the Jaffna peninsula, seizing control of a base and a symbolic highway, and isolating the retreating rebels in a shrinking slice of northeastern jungle.

The victory at Elephant Pass came exactly a week after the military seized the Tamil Tigers' administrative capital of Kilinochchi and began racing deep into rebel-held territory.

Concerns meanwhile rose about potential civilian casualties.

The government has vowed to crush the separatist guerrillas and end the Indian Ocean island nation's quarter-century-old civil war in the coming months.

The capture of Elephant Pass gives the government nearly full control of the northern peninsula — the Tamil's cultural capital and the symbolic heart of the insurgency — for the first time in nine years. The rebels still control a small sliver of land in the east of the peninsula.

It also puts the A-9 road, Sri Lanka's major north-south highway and a powerful symbol of national unity, completely under government control for the first time in 23 years. The road will allow the government to easily send supplies over land to the once isolated enclave of Jaffna, which it had been forced to resupply by air and sea.

The road will also serve as a supply line for government forces laying siege to the rebels' last remaining stronghold of Mullaittivu.

However, that fighting will be especially difficult because of the presence of hundreds of thousands of civilians concentrated in the rebel area, said Iqbal Athas, a military analyst for Jane's Defense Weekly.

Human rights groups have warned that civilian casualties were likely to mount as the government closes in on the insurgents. The pro-rebel TamilNet Web site has blamed government artillery assaults for several civilian deaths in recent days — charges the military has denied.

"It's going to be the final part that's the toughest part for the military," Athas said.

"The soldiers today are waging a battle to give the people a country free of terrorism," President Mahinda Rajapaksa said in announcing the victory on national television.

The rebels were not available for comment.

But, in a reminder of the Tamil Tigers' ability to strike back in the face of conventional defeats, the rebels detonated a roadside bomb near the eastern city of Trincomalee that killed three air force troops and four civilians, military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said.

The government captured the east from the rebels in 2007, but attacks in the area have increased in recent months.

The Tamil Tigers have been fighting since 1983 to create an independent homeland for ethnic minority Tamils, who have suffered decades of marginalization by governments controlled by the Sinhalese majority. The conflict has killed more than 70,000 people.

Before the recent military offensive, the rebels controlled a large swath of territory in the country's north that they ran as a de facto state, with their own courts, police and tax system.

That territory was sandwiched between the northern Jaffna peninsula — largely in government hands — and the rest of the country to the south.

But troops pushed in from the south in recent months, and captured an important crossroads last week that led to Elephant Pass on the rebel-controlled isthmus connecting the peninsula to the rest of the island.

As troops descended on the rebels there from the north and south, the insurgents had little choice but to withdraw many of their fighters and heavy weapons to Mullaittivu to the south, Athas said.

"They had to cede it otherwise they would have gotten trapped," Athas said.

On Friday, government forces broke into Elephant Pass from both sides and fought with the retreating rebels, Nanayakkara said.

"(The rebels) were just engaging and withdrawing," he said. "They did not have any fire support like artillery and mortars. They were fighting with small arms and booby trapping the area and moving out."

The Tamil Tigers seized control of Elephant Pass in 2000 in a battle that left more than 700 soldiers dead or missing, but many doubt the rebels have the capability to repeat such a feat.

The victory at Elephant Pass gave the government new momentum by linking up troops who had been stationed along the relatively static northern front lines with the forces chasing the rebels from the south and west, Athas said. That frees up thousands of troops to join the battle, he said...

Kilinochchi liberated- Countdown to extinction begins for LTTE

The 57 Division and the Task Force 1 of Sri Lanka Army today (Jan 2) scored the greatest victory in their noble battle against terrorism by liberating the Kilinochchi town, the so-called administrative hub of the LTTE terrorists.

Troops of 57 Division lead by Major General Jagath Dias have entered into the highly defended terrorists stronghold from the South and Southwestern boundaries while the Task Force 1 troops lead by Brigadier Shavendra Silva have marched in from the North and Northwest.

Kilinochchi, though not very strategically located in terms of military maneuvers, has been given a great symbolic importance by the LTTE terrorists as their administrative "capital". In fact, the LTTE propaganda elements used to call the town as their de facto capital of the utopian state of "Eelam". However , Sri Lanka government has been running all civil administrative affairs in the area, including bank and finance, education, health, trade and welfare .

The terrorist first took hold of the town in 1990 when the Army withdrew its garrisons from Kilinochchi. Then the area was liberated by the Army during operations Sathjaya I, II, and III in September 1996. The town again fell into the terrorists' hand in September 1998 and had their administrative hub there ever since.

The LTTE is a ruthless terrorists outfit that has been engaged in a bloody terrorist campaign against the citizens of Sri Lanka since 1983. Lead by a psychopathic chief , the outfit has been trying to establish an ethnically pure Tamil state on the Sri Lankan soil. The LTTE is also the first terrorist outfit to use suicide bombers, and to develop naval and aerial fighting capability. The outfit is listed in the UN list of shame for using child soldiers and banned in many countries in the world.

Who is MIA ARULAR..?

Over the past twenty years, the LTTE has been accused of assassinating almost a dozen high-level figures, including two heads of state. Assassinations and attacks on officials allegedly committed by the LTTE include:

* The May 1991 assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at a campaign rally in India;

* the May 1993 assassination of Sri Lankan President Ranasinghe Premadasa;

* the July 1999 assassination of a Sri Lankan member of parliament, Neelan
Thiruchelvam, an ethnic Tamil involved in a government-sponsored peace initiative;

* a pair of December 1999 suicide bombings in Colombo that wounded Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga;

* the June 2000 assassination of Sri Lankan Industry Minister C.V. Goonaratne;

* the August 2005 assassination of Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar;

* the January 2008 assassination of a member of parliament from the opposition United National Party (UNP), T. Maheswaran;

* the January 2008 assassination of Sri Lankan Nation-Building Minister D. M. Dassanayake;

Pros

The first Pro I guess would be that it is has a specific rating for children 13 and up, however it is up to the parents to decide if their children are really mature enough to play it. The amount of resources needed to play the game are another Pro with only Windows needed along with a 500 MHZ Processor, 96 MB of Ram, a Keyboard and mouse. To play it on the computer you have a couple of choices making this another Pro, with either a CD or Streaming Video, so you don’t have to run out and buy it to try it.

Cons

As always there are cons to something or another. One such con is that it is very life like, which is fine for adults and more mature teenagers. There are cheaters in the game as well but the creators and administrators for each game have a tendency to keep an eye out for this and limit what dead players and other player can do. Many people complain that it reflects on society causing another con, but I have found in my experience it is better not to throw stones than have someone throw some at you.
